Gilmer (12-3) is no stranger to Jerry World, reaching its third Texas 4A Division II championship game in the last four seasons. On Friday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the Buckeyes take on Bellville (15-0) for the state title. The Brahmas are in their first championship game since 1977 after holding off Wimberley in their semifinal game at Pflugerville on Dec. 8. Gilmer rolled in its semifinal at Prosper, blowing out Glen Rose on Dec. 8. It is the ninth championship game appearance for the Buckeyes, who are seeking their first title since 2014. They previously won the 4A Division I championship in 2009 and the 4A Division II title in 2004. The Brahmas have never won a state title, losing in the final in both 1960 and 1977.

Bellville never trailed at The Pfield in Pflugerville last week and held off Wimberley for a 35-33 victory. DD Murray ran for two touchdowns while Corrian Hood finished with 121 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Sam Hranicky also had a touchdown run and DJ Sanders scored on a fumble return. Belleville stopped a potential game-tying two-point conversion in the final minute.
Gilmer, which started the season 3-3 before running off nine straight wins, led 45-21 at halftime at Children's Health Stadium in Prosper and walked off with a 79-42 victory over Glen Rose. Will Henderson ran for 271 yards on 18 carries with four touchdowns and Dhrvay Smith scored twice on the ground. Cadon Tennison threw two touchdown passes as well and Geramiah Noble ran back a kickoff 75 yards for a score.
Murray (36), Hood (24) and Hranicky (23) combined for 83 touchdowns on the ground for the Brahmas and each topped 1,500 yards on the season. Henderson piled up 2,510 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns for the Buckeyes while Tennison threw for 2,474 yards and 25 TDs with just four interceptions. Taerik Tate has 56 catches for 1,074 yards and 13 touchdowns and Brendan Webb has 11 receiving TDs.
